Privacy and cookies
Mākeke Maps (makekemaps.com) is a directory of the vendors at Hawaii's farmers markets. This page tells you what we collect, what Google Analytics receives, and how you choose.
What we collect
- Weekend Email: when you sign up, we keep your email address and the region you chose, so that we can send the email. Each email has an unsubscribe link.
- Messages: when you write to us or send a vendor claim or update, we keep what you send so that we can answer.
- Analytics: Google Analytics counts visits and the actions below.
Google Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4, a service of Google, to count visits and to see which markets, vendors and guides help people. When Google Analytics runs on a page, Google receives:
- Pages: the pages you open, the page or site that sent you here, and the time of each visit. The page address sent to Google never contains your search text.
- Device and browser: device type, operating system, browser, screen size and language.
- Approximate location: country, region and city, which Google works out from your IP address. Google Analytics 4 does not log or store IP addresses.
- Identifiers: random IDs in the
_gaand_ga_*cookies, which tell one browser and one visit from another. - Outcome events: when you open a market, a vendor, directions, a vendor website or Instagram, a guide link, a news story, a source or an offer; when you use the map, the filters or the search (the number of characters and of results, never the words); when you send a vendor claim or update; and when you send the Weekend Email form and what the result was. These events carry a listing or story ID and the host name of the link. They never carry your email address, your name or your search text.
Advertising signals are off. Google signals and ad personalization are turned off for this site. Google does not join this data to Google accounts or use it for ads.
Retention. Google keeps event data for 2 months and user data for 14 months. Then Google deletes it. See Google's Privacy Policy.

The site also keeps your cookie choice in your browser's local storage.
Your choice
Visitors in the EU, the EEA, the UK and Switzerland
If you visit from the European Union, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, Google Analytics stays off until you choose Accept in the cookie notice. Before you choose, and after Reject, this site sends nothing to Google Analytics. Our host (Vercel) tells the site your country from your IP address. When the country is not known, the site also asks first.
You can change your choice at any time with the buttons under Your cookie choice on this page. When you withdraw your consent, collection stops at once and the site deletes the Google Analytics cookies.
All other visitors
Google Analytics runs without a notice. To stop it, choose Reject under Your cookie choice on this page. This browser keeps that choice, and Google Analytics then stays off on every visit until you choose Accept. You can also install the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on, which stops Google Analytics on every website.
