Kamuela Hongwanji Bon Dance 2026

Kamuela Hongwanji Mission is a Jodo Shinshu (Shin) Buddhist temple dedicated on October 25, 1954, on Waimea's historic Church Row, where Japanese plantation-era immigrants established several congregations along Mamalahoa Highway. The temple's physical structure was dismantled from a Parker Ranch building at Keamuku and reassembled at Church Row — a project championed by Parker Ranch superintendent Yutaka Kimura, who sought to foster community healing and interfaith cooperation in the years after World War II. The mission is part of the statewide Honpa Hongwanji Mission of Hawaii network, which has held obon observances in the islands for over a century.
