What to expect
The Hula ʻOni E Hula Festival was founded by nā kumu hula Hokulani and Larry DeRego of Hālau Hula ʻO Hokulani, established in 1985. The first festival was held at Hilton Hawaiian Village in 1992; the 2026 edition marks the 32nd annual celebration.
Held at the Coral Ballroom at Hilton Hawaiian Village, the three-day competition brings together award-winning hālau from across the Hawaiian islands, Japan, and Europe to perform in both ʻauana (modern) and kahiko (ancient) hula styles; students ages six and older may compete. The paid hula competition runs alongside a free public craft fair featuring over 75 local vendors showcasing Hawaiʻi-made products and community artisanship.
