What to expect

Buddha Day, or Hanamatsuri (Flower Festival), commemorates the birth of Siddhartha Gautama (the Buddha) in Lumbini Garden. Each year the seven Buddhist denominations of the Hawaii Buddhist Council hold a joint Buddha Day service in Honolulu at one of the member temples, typically featuring a hanamido — a miniature floral altar holding a figure of the baby Buddha — which attendees bathe in sweet tea.
