What to expect
Big Island Avocado Festivals, operating through Hawaiian Wellness, has organized this waterfront celebration at Hale Halawai in downtown Kailua-Kona since roughly 2008; the 2022 edition was billed as the 15th annual after a one-year COVID hiatus. Over time the event broadened from an avocado focus to a wider tropical-fruit celebration.
The festival is known for local fruit tasting, artisan vendors, live music from Dr. Tim's Medicine Band, hula performances, and a plant exchange — all run as a zero-waste, free-admission event. The Hawaiʻi Keiki Museum participates with a Keiki Maker Vendor Fair offering free vendor tables for young entrepreneurs, and Hawaiian fruit farm tours are available the following day.
