Lantern Floating Hawaiʻi
Hosted by Shinnyo Lantern Floating Hawaiʻi (Nā Lei Aloha Foundation)
Held each Memorial Day at Ala Moana Beach Park, Lantern Floating Hawaiʻi sets some 6,000 candle-lit lanterns adrift off Magic Island in a collective ceremony of remembrance. Organized in the Shinnyo-en Buddhist tradition, it draws tens of thousands and is free and open to all; individual lanterns are first-come, first-served, one per family. Online remembrance is offered for those who cannot attend in person.
Food & vendors: Not a vendor-driven event — lanterns are free and first-come, one per family/group.
Parking & access: Free; no reservations. Accessible parking and a Special Needs tent at Magic Island (10 a.m.–4 p.m.); complimentary parking and shuttle from 800 Olomehani St., last shuttle back ~9 p.m.
